Braves Newcomb Has Short Outing As Yankees Win 8-5!
If I had to sum up the game in one word it would be “walks”! Sean Newcomb had a hard time gripping the baseball to be able to control his pitches especially his off speed pitches. Then to make matters worse the home plate umpires strike zone was unpredictable for both teams.
Newcomb ended up only pitching 2 2/3 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 3 hits two of which were homeruns. Newcomb also issued 5 walks and had 2 strikeouts. Four of the five walks came in the top of the third inning.
The stars of the game for the Braves are relief pitchers Luke Jackson and rookie pitcher Evan Phillip who made his major league debut tonight. These two pitchers saved the bullpen because the Braves have a short turnaround in they play tomorrow at noon CT.
Before the Braves scored their first run they were down 6-0! But as usual the Braves do not quit! They fought back to get to 6-5!
